These artists will be supported by our very talented Band “Kickin Country” Band

Born and raised in Cessnock, Tara Naysmith has been performing from a very young age, displaying incredible stage presence and confidence, impressing audiences over the years. Tara spent time fronting popular cover bands and appearing in musical theatre before finding her home in Country music.

2012 TIARA Female Vocal Finalist and 2012 Music Oz Finalist….

TARA NAYSMITH has her parents to thank for making country music part of her life. Growing up Tara was exposed to such country greats as Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and our very own Slim Dusty. These days her music collection now features that impressive list plus contemporary artists Martina McBride, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Brad Paisley plus Aussies – Troy Cassar-Daley, Beccy Cole and Adam Harvey.

Her debut EP “Strong Hands” was released in 2004 just prior to reaching the finals of the Star Maker competition (Travis Collins took out the title that year). The low-key release featured mainly self-penned tracks, was produced locally and received solid airplay in the Newcastle/Hunter region.

In 2009 the singer-songwriter teamed up with fellow country music artist Rob Wilson to produce her debut album, “Now’s The Time”. The 13-track release generated four radio hits including the duet ‘Do You Wanna Dance’ written by the album’s producer – the single peaked at No.18 on the Country Tracks Top 30 and No. 38 on the Country Music Channel, a definite career highlight for the 2004 Star Maker finalist.

“Tara Naysmith’s rich and soulful vocal, shines throughout her debut full-length release, “Now’s The Time”. Well worth a listen and as the title suggests, now may just be Tara Naysmith’s time”, Matt Lawrence, Country Music Capital News

Penning five of the album’s tracks, Tara also selected works from award-winning Australian songwriters Rob Wilson and LeAnne King. The release also features some of this country’s finest musicians including Mik McCartin on drums, Gary Steel on piano, Mick Albeck on fiddle, Michel Rose on pedal steel, Tim Dutton on guitars, Scott Greenaway on bass and Karen O’Shea on backing vocals.

“This album is the genuine article, unique vocals, great musicians and a collection of terrific songs – what more can you ask for?”, Rosie Adsett – Country Update

The gap between releases can simply be explained by “a woman’s gotta do what a woman’s gotta do”… in those years, Tara happily devoted her time to her two children – sons Max, and Ned. The boys have always been involved in the music, they love that mum’s a singer and are big country music fans – Max went to his first gig at just 11 weeks old!

Following the release of her debut album, Tara has spent her time performing far and wide including many of Australia’s celebrated country music festivals including the annual events in Tamworth, Central Coast, Cessnock and Mildura.

Additional career highlights came in 1997 and 2001 where she performed at civic receptions and shared the stage with NRL Premiership winners The Newcastle Knights and in 2000 when she was selected to sing at the Olympic Torch party in Cessnock before a crowd of over 15,000. In recent years she has performed at a number of events in her hometown and Sydney for audiences that included Mark Latham, Kevin Rudd and the current PM Julia Gillard.

Reflecting on the journey so far but also looking ahead, Tara muses, “It has been such a fun and exciting ride since the album’s release. During that time, I have made wonderful new friends, learned so much more, made many new fans along the way and have loved every minute of it.v
